DJ Sbu looks back at MoFaya’s path to success
DJ Sbu, born Sbusiso Leope, took to his Instagram account on 27 May 2026, sharing with online users that MoFaya started in 2014 with no fancy offices, endorsements, or investors. Now, the beverage is stocked in fridges at several major retail stores and petrol stations.
“Just a dream bigger than our circumstances and the willingness to work when nobody believed in us,” wrote the businessman. “At a time when entrepreneurship wasn’t as fashionable, many laughed at us. But we kept pushing.”
He explained that behind the growth was rejection, sacrifice, sleepless nights, losses, self-doubt and discipline, adding:
“To many entrepreneurs, we’ve become more than just an energy drink. We’ve become a symbol of black excellence, self-belief and owning our means of production. Proof that young black entrepreneurs can build legacy brands from the ground up.”

The DJ spoke to young hustlers eager to follow in his footsteps, noting that while success takes time, legacy takes sacrifice, and generational wealth takes discipline.
He reminded them never to be ashamed of their humble beginnings.
“Start where you are. Start with what you have, even if nobody believes in you yet. Every empire once looked impossible to somebody else. Keep building. Keep believing. Keep pushing.”
