South African DJ and broadcaster DJ Cleo has announced his departure from Radio 2000, bringing an end to his 28-month stint at the station and his popular show, The Eskhaleni Party.

The veteran DJ, whose real name is Tlou Cleopas Monyepao, joined Radio 2000 in April 2024. His final show aired on Saturday, 22 August 2026, marking the end of his run on the public broadcaster.
DJ Cleo chooses ‘peace’ over radio
In announcing his resignation, DJ Cleo said his decision was driven by a desire to redirect his energy towards his music career, family, academic journey and mental well-being.
“I am choosing to refocus my energy on my music career, my family, my academic journey and most importantly, my peace and mental health,” he said in a statement.
He stressed that his departure was not motivated by plans to join another radio station.
DJ Cleo said he would take any future broadcasting opportunities slowly and deliberately, while focusing on other areas of his career and personal life.

The Eskhaleni Party was a major highlight
During his time at Radio 2000, DJ Cleo hosted The Eskhaleni Party with DJ Cleo, a programme he named himself.
The show quickly became an important part of his broadcasting career, and he described its nomination for a Telkom Radio Award during its first year on air as one of his biggest highlights.
DJ Cleo also expressed pride in the work he and his team achieved during his 28 months at the station, including maintaining a strong attendance and disciplinary record.
What’s next for DJ Cleo?
Rather than stepping away from the entertainment industry, DJ Cleo plans to put more energy into his music and live performances.
He also intends to complete his degree and continue developing emerging artists, including his protégés uMainfrend Womzulu and Pulinshki.
Despite leaving, DJ Cleo made it clear that the Eskhaleni brand is not necessarily finished.
“I will miss them the most. This is certainly not the end of the brand,” he said.
He thanked Radio 2000 management, his colleagues, listeners and critics for being part of his journey, while wishing the station continued success.
