A TikTok message that got fans talking

Gugu, who plays Joyce Gomora in the popular series, recently addressed speculation about a possible second season in a TikTok video that quickly caught the attention of fans.

While she stopped short of confirming that a new season is in development, she encouraged viewers to continue supporting the show on Netflix.

“I do not know if there is a season two or not. However, showing Netflix that you loved the content will push them to give us another chance at telling our stories, which is always the goal,” she said.

Her comments have reignited discussions about the future of the series, with many viewers expressing a desire to see the story continue.

No official renewal yet

Despite the excitement, Netflix has not officially announced a second season of The Polygamist. Industry reports indicate that the streaming giant is likely still evaluating the show’s performance before making a decision on its future. Factors such as viewing hours, completion rates and global audience engagement typically influence renewal decisions.

A global success story

Since its release, The Polygamist has attracted viewers both locally and internationally. The 22-episode drama, based on Sue Nyathi’s bestselling novel, follows the unravelling of businessman Jonasi Gomora’s carefully constructed life as secrets, affairs, and betrayals come to light.

The series stars Gugu alongside S’dumo Mtshali and has earned praise for its gripping storytelling and standout performances. Gugu’s portrayal of Joyce, in particular, has been widely celebrated by viewers and critics alike.

Fans want more

Social media platforms have been flooded with reactions from viewers, with some calling for a second season and others debating whether the story should end where it did. Online discussions continue to trend as fans dissect plot twists, character decisions and potential storylines for a future instalment.

A TikTok user said: “I’m in America, and I watched in Zulu with English subtitles. I’ve been screaming uJonasi to my husband.”

Another said: “We don’t want season two if Jonasi is dead. Let’s be honest, what’s the point… who’s going to be the polygamist?”

While another one said: “You did amazing, love all the way from London! I watched it in Zulu. ‘Haibo’ is now a part of my vernacular.”

For now, the future of The Polygamist remains uncertain. However, if fan enthusiasm is anything to go by, many viewers would welcome another chapter in the Gomora family’s dramatic story.

Whether or not a second season becomes a reality, one thing is clear: The Polygamist has made a lasting impact on audiences and cemented its place as one of South Africa’s biggest television talking points of 2026.
