Steady on his fitness journey, rapper Cassper Nyovest shared footage of his very first deadlift. While impressive, South Africans were less impressed when he referred to pounds instead of kilograms.

Cassper Nyovest shows off deadlift

On 1 July 2026, the Mama I Made It hitmaker took to his X account with his video, captioning the post, “First time deadlifting 352.7 lbs.”

When converting pounds to kilograms, Cassper’s 352.7 lbs is roughly 160kg, the same approximate weight of a fully grown Galápagos giant tortoise or lightweight and dual-sport motorcycles.

With guidance from a trainer off-camera, the Billiato businessman showed off his strength at a local gym.

What is deadlifting?

According to the health and wellness publication Healthline, deadlifting, a foundational strength-training exercise, is one of three lifts performed in powerlifting. While various equipment can be used, barbells are the most common.

The above-mentioned information portal describes deadlifts as highly effective at increasing functional strength, thanks to the largest lower body muscles being activated.

Metric conversion unimpresses South Africans

Several members of the online community took to the comment section, rolling their eyes at Cassper for not using kilograms. Some people even assumed why the star used pounds in the first place.

@TheHN1C asked, “Why are you using lbs instead of kg? You want the figures to be large?”

Cassper laughed and said, “Haha, exactly!”

To another social media user, the media personality wrote, ” I’m not trying to sound smart. I just decided to use pounds cause I can.”

“Just put kgs, man, this isn’t America,” remarked @lungsta_k.

@TheOGPurist_ told online users, “I hate when Africans use the American metric system. Bro, the d*mn plates literally say kilograms. Why are you using pounds?”

@InshallahSZN sided with Cassper, writing, “The man just cleared a sensational 160kg deadlift with form, and people are hating on him?! You really can’t win on Twitter, man.”
