South African actress and presenter Candice Sello (née Modiselle) has touched social media users after sharing an emotional reunion with her former high school drama teacher, Mrs. Courtenay. A teacher who believed in her dreams

In her post, Sello reflected on the lasting impact of a teacher’s encouragement, writing that educators can either “fan the flames” of a young person’s passion or extinguish them. She described Mrs. Courtenay as someone who consistently championed her talents and even searched for scholarship opportunities to help secure her future in the performing arts.

Why the story resonates

The reunion has struck a chord because it celebrates gratitude rather than personal achievement alone. Instead of focusing solely on her own success, Sello used the moment to publicly acknowledge someone who helped her reach it.

Her message also serves as a reminder that educators often make sacrifices behind the scenes that extend far beyond the classroom. Whether through encouragement, guidance or practical support, teachers can have a lifelong influence on their students’ confidence and ambitions.

A reminder to celebrate everyday heroes

Sello ended her post by encouraging people to show appreciation to those who deserve it most instead of waiting for special occasions.

Her reunion with Mrs. Courtenay is a heartwarming example of how gratitude can come full circle, inspiring others to reconnect with mentors who have made a meaningful difference in their lives.
