Babes Wodumo opens up about the heartbreak of starting over after Mampintsha’s death

South African gqom queen Babes Wodumo has opened up about the heartbreaking reality of rebuilding her life after losing her husband, Mandla Maphumulo who was popularly known as Mampintsha, admitting that the journey has been filled with pain, loneliness and difficult moments. 

The singer, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, has faced life-changing challenges since the death of her husband in December 2022.  

Mampintsha’s passing shocked fans across the country and marked the end of a highly publicised love story that had been followed closely by the South African entertainment industry.

Now, Babes Wodumo has revealed the emotional battle behind the scenes as she learns how to move forward without the man who shared so much of her life. 

Speaking to The Sowetan Babes said, “I was on the verge of giving up until I realised my son depended on me.” She also said, “While I was in mourning, I realised my music career was falling apart, and I had to fight to save it.” 

She admitted that motherhood has given her a reason to keep pushing forward, even on the days when the pain feels overwhelming.

Is there more music coming?

The ‘Gqom queen’ remains focused on her future, her music and being present for her son, while continuing to honour the legacy of the man who played such an important role in her life. 

Her emotional journey has touched many fans who have experienced their own losses, reminding them that healing is not about forgetting — it is about finding the courage to continue. 

As Babes Wodumo rebuilds her life, she hopes her story will inspire others facing heartbreak to hold on to hope, even during the hardest seasons.
