From Ney The Bae to Anele Zondo

As reported by DRUM magazine, the South African entertainer has decided to move away from her long-standing music persona, Ney The Bae, and release music under the name Anele Zondo.

The change represents more than a branding exercise: it signals a desire to bring her different creative worlds together under one identity.

The move comes after years of building a career across television, acting, fashion and music. She has previously explained that separating her public and musical identities gave her space to explore. She now appears ready to let audiences connect more directly with the woman behind the music.

A milestone worth celebrating

Her reinvention follows a significant achievement at the 2026 Basadi in Music Awards, where she took home the Best Hip Hop award. The ceremony was held at Joburg Theatre in August as the awards celebrated their fifth anniversary.

The recognition comes after the release of music including Whole City in 2025 and Bhampa in June 2026.

What comes next?

For fans, the identity shift could mean a more personal and cohesive chapter for Anele. Her latest direction suggests an artist interested not only in creating music, but in shaping an entire creative world around her name.

Rather than competing with other artists, the star has indicated that her biggest measure of success is improving on her own previous work.

With a Basadi award behind her and a fresh musical identity ahead, Anele is betting on authenticity, versatility and growth.
