Drip Footwear, the local sneaker brand founded by Lekau Sehoana, has entered liquidation.
Once hailed as a rising star in the South African sneaker market, the brand’s downfall has left many shocked, including former employees who have shared their mixed experiences working for the company.
Drip footwear made waves in the industry with its bold designs and commitment to quality, quickly gaining a loyal customer base.
The brand was celebrated for promoting local manufacturing and its relatable marketing strategies, often resonating with the youth. However, recent financial difficulties have resulted in the decision to liquidate.
Speaking with Daily Sun, a former employee of Drip footwear Katlego Van Wyk reflected on his time working as a store assistant and cashier at Drip. Despite now facing unemployment, Katlego fondly remembers his time at Drip.
“Drip is one of the most wonderful companies I’ve ever worked for, I don’t want to lie. Big ups and shout out to Mr. Lekau for the structure he set and for the company itself and everything it did for us,” he said.
Katlego further told the news publication that he noticed that key people in the factory and head office were being replaced, and stock deliveries started becoming irregular. He also expressed frustration with how Lekau handled the situation. While he described the CEO as a nice person when they met in stores, he felt manipulated by the false hope that was given to employees.
