Our 5 Royal Men Of SA Soapies

by Boitumelo Mmakou

The Royalty Soapie South African Awards are around the corner and they are about the soap stars – they recognise accomplished soapies in the television industry and promote creativity, quality and excellence. We celebrate five of the male stars in this genre.

MOTLATSI MAFATSHE

Motlatsi

Nominated for best lead actor, this 30-year-old is a total winner. He plays the notorious character Sechaba Moloi-Matabane on Isidingo. He is one of the few in the industry who has an academic qualification for his craft.

SIYABONGA TWALA

Siyabonga-Twala-

The Umlazi-born and raised hottie constantly makes sure he perfects every role. He has moved from Generations to Isidingo and many other shows. He now has us sitting on the edge of our seats on Isibaya by playing Mpiyakhe Zungu.

VUSI KUNENE

Vusi-Kunene

We all thought he was the worst person on earth back in Generations as Jack Mabaso. But now the 48-year-old is why we watch Isibaya. We love seeing him act out his Bhekifa Ntshangase (now Ngubane) character. He is such a good actor that for this year’s Royalty Soapie Awards he has been nominated as best lead actor, and best villain.

SELLO MAAKE KA-NCUBE

Sello-Maake-Kancube

Till this day this handsome man is famously known as Archie Moroka of Generations. However, now he’s making waves as the nominee for best villain of Scandal, stirring up a lot of drama as Daniel Nyathi.

ANDILE GUMBI

Andile-G

Nominated for outstanding newcomer, Andile plays son of a royal – Zweli – on Isibaya. His talent speaks louder than his charming looks. He is definitely a good excuse to watch the soapie; not just because of his looks, but mainly because of his acting.

The award ceremony will be held on 28th March 2015 at the Durban International Convention Centre.
