DJs Fresh and Euphonik give insight on how they have kept their working relationship strong and successful.

When Euphonik started in the music industry, he had DJ Fresh to mentor and guide him. Soon after that, the two were playing the hottest sets together and working on extraordinary events. One of these successful events is OH SHIP, which the DJs have worked on for the past four years. They tell us about the 4th instalment of the cruise and their working relationship…
DJ FRESH
1.How have you and Euphonik managed to keep your friendship and work relationship going for so many years?
It’s not easy to run a business or host a big event such as OH SHIP with two big personalities. We often have to find a common ground to make it easier for us to put our ideas into being.
2. OH SHIP has been running for four years now; how did it actually start?
Euphonik and I DJ’ed at the international Rock the Boat event, but were not fully impressed by it – we wanted more. So we got in touch with a few local friends and created something on our shores.
3. What are the business challenges of hosting such an event?
Getting a team together that understands your vision is hard. DJs assume that because it’s a party on a ship, then for three days they will get paid a stack load of money, which isn’t the case. Hosting the event is costly; we not only have to pay the DJs, but we consider the cruise line and other elements. Of all the business ventures I have been in, this has been the riskiest, because if you are not making money, you will lose a whole lot of it. We are lucky to have sponsors to ease the financial constraints.
4. What strategy do you and Euphonik use to host this kind of event?
In any partnership, everyone should know their strengths and weaknesses and that is what makes it easier for us to work together. We are able to share tasks.
5. Why should people sign up for OH SHIP?
We are sold out for the 2015 OH SHIP experience. But people should look forward to next year’s one because it’s an affordable three-day party that gives you an international cruise experience and you will be surrounded by like-minded people.
EUPHONIK
1. What does it take to keep a working relationship going, especially with such a big age gap?
For any business to run smoothly and for two people to continue working together no matter the difference in age or style, you need to have a good relationship with the person.
2. DJ Fresh has given us insight on how the two of you work together and overcome challenges; what does each of you bring to the table?
We’ve given ourselves the responsibility to do what is best for our work as a team. In order for things to run smoothly we both have to do our part. You cannot let one person give far more than the other; whatever the task, we both pull our weight.
