South Africans have taken to social media to celebrate their very own Lalela Mswane who has been crowned the new Miss Supranational recently.

Lalela has made history by being the first black female to carry this crown. “I am overwhelmed; at the moment, it still feels surreal. I am deeply thankful to all the amazing people who have supported and uplifted me, I couldn’t have done it without them. I want to thank the organisers of Miss Supranational, the Polish people, all my fellow contestants, the Miss South Africa Organisation and my South African fans. This title is not mine alone, it is South Africa’s victory”, says Lalela according to a statement published on www.misssa.co.za.

She dedicates her win to other women who came before her. “I’m simply at a loss for words…” she said. “With this crown, I carry the hopes [and] dreams of women who have come before me and those to come. It serves as affirmation that no dream is too small, no journey insurmountable to conquer. May it be a constant reminder to allow your feet to lead you to wherever it is your heart desires,” she adds.

She represented SA against contestants from 69 other countries, including beauties from Thailand, Venezuela and Indonesia. All three, along with Miss Vietnam, placed in the top five.

Taking to social media, proud South Africans shared their joy.
