All Things SAMA – 2014

by Amanda Ndlangisa

On Monday, the 28th of April, we attended the South African Music Awards at the Sun City Superbowl. The awards kicked off earlier in the day with the presentation of the Industry Awards at the Extravaganza Theatre, where Mafikizolo took an early lead with no fewer than Five awards.

Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe

Nhlanhla-anda-Theo

The cleaners of this year’s SAMAs, Mafikizolo looked great. Nhlanhla looked glamorous and was appropriately dressed for the red carpet event. We like Theo’s bow tie, he added a touch of vintage style to his look. Mafikizolo took home eight awards. The group has worked hard on their comeback and they totally deserve it.

Bonang Matheba

Bonang-Matheba

Bonang’s dress is beautiful, but it looks quite similar to something we’ve seen on her before. Her make-up and hair is flawless though.

Kabelo and Gail Mabalane

Kabelo-and-Gail

Kabelo looks like he just hopped off a plane straight out of Scotland – he overdid the tartan trend. Gail looks like she didn’t make an effort at all.

Rebecca Malope

SAMA 20

Rebecca looks feminine and the dress is flattering on her. The queen of gospel has won her 15th SAMA this year and announced she was working on her 35th album. No one is more deserving than her.

Zonke Dikana

Zonke-Dikana

Zonke has taken the androgyny trend too far. It would have been nice to see her tone down the outfit with a pencil skirt instead of the trousers because the top is muscular enough.

Nonhle Thema

Nonhle-Thema

Nonhle doesn’t look comfortable; the shoes don’t go with the dress. We would’ve rather opted for nude or black court heels and a little less accessorizing.

Heavy K

Heavy-K

Where is Heavy K going? His outfit is all over the show. Pick what you want K – African or Hip Hop.

iFani

Ifani

We are taken by the fur, which is on trend. This look is typical iFani.

The Soil

The-Soil

The Soil’s performance was out of this world, but their outfits lacked pizzazz. Buhle and Ntsika match quite well, but Luphinda (dressed in blue) looks like he tried too hard.

Judith Sephuma

Judith-Sephuma

Judith looks good; we especially like the slit.

Zakes Batwini

Zakes-Bantwini

Zakes looks boring as usual because he always plays it safe, it would be nice to see him in something different and edgy.
