The return of Meshack Mavuso

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

We first saw Meshack Mavuso on our small screens as Javas in Yizo Yizo. He is now a prominent actor that we have grown to love. He chats to us about his role as Chairperson on e.tv’s action drama series Heist.

1.I love telling local stories. South Africa has many untold stories and I love to use my talent to tell them. From my days in Yizo Yizo, telling untold stories was my driving force and it continues to push me to play authentic and proudly African characters.

 2. There is a lot of talent in the township of Alexandra, and I want to help nurture it. I took a break from TV screens to focus on theatre development in Alex, where I was born. Due to limited resources, it is difficult to unearth the talent. I spent a couple of years focusing on youth theatre development in this township because it nurtured my talent.

3. Viewers will love to hate Chairperson, the character I play in Heist. I play a streetwise police commander who wants to be the man of the moment. He gets caught between catching the bad guys by playing by the book or doing whatever it takes to get the job done.

 4. It is exciting to be back on TV. My time away was good and constructive, and I am happy to be telling home-brewed stories in the South African way. Viewers will either watch themselves or see characters that they can relate to.

 5. Catch Heist on Tuesdays at 9.30pm on e.tv and eHD
