Here’s Why We love Caster Semenya

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

We take a moment to celebrate South African Athlete Caster Semenya after she won the Women’s 800m Final at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Making her the first black SA woman to win gold at the Olympics.

From village girl to a Rio Olympics Gold Medallist

Caster Semenya was born in the rural village of Limpopo and has risen above her disadvantaged background to become the 800 meter Olympic and World Championship title holder.  Plus she is reportedly the fastest female 800 meter runner in the world this year.

Rises above controversy and public scrutiny

Semenya’s career has been clouded with controversy after she was diagnosed with hyperandrogenism, a condition that causes a person to produce excess testosterone. However she does not let all the bad publicity get her down. “I am not a fake. I am natural. I am just being Caster. I don’t want to be someone I don’t want to be. I don’t want to be someone people want me to be. I just want to be me. I was born like this. I don’t want any changes. I just want to be me.”

Relationship Goals

Caster’s wife Violet Raseboya is her biggest fan and continues to support and celebrate her partner’s achievements.

Hairstyles

Caster is the queen of cornrows as her cornrows always have a fresh and edgy twist.

Celebratory Poise

After every win, Caster is often seen celebrating with her trademark poises.

Conclusion

We are so proud of Caster for reminding us that greatness can be achieved on a world stages regardless of our backgrounds or challenges.
