Joburg youth discusses Blessers

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

As we all know Blessers or Sugar Daddies as they were formally known are a worldwide phenomenon, however they seem to have regained some level of popularity recently.

It’s quite common to overhear conversations among young women about Blessers who bought them drinks at the club over the weekend, the latest Marc Jacobs handbag or are funding an overseas trip to some expensive destination. Although it’s predominately an older man – younger woman dynamic, it’s also not foreign to find younger men dating (Ben 10) dating older women for the same purpose. This has even spurred on websites and apps that promise to help you find a Blesser, should you be having difficulty finding one on your own.

The guys at Unfiltered, a local web series took to the streets of Joburg to find out what some of South Africa’s youth think about the Blesser culture.

What do you think? Do you agree with the views in the video below?
