by Keletso Modisakeng

Our health writer chats to Club and radio DJ Fikile aka ‘Fix’ Moeti about fitness

How do you keep fit?

I am a triathlete (I swim, run and cycle, which helps my cardio) and Crossfit user, (Gymnastics & Weightlifting, which helps strengthen and condition my body) so fitness is in me.

What is a perfect fitness day in Fix’s world?

A perfect fit day for me would start with Crossfit in the morning and end with a relaxed swim or run in the evening.

What is the best healthy food tip?

I don’t do diets because when you stop the diet you gain all the weight back. I just try to eat clean by getting all the nutrients I need before and after a workout.

What exercises can a person who doesn’t go to gym do at home?

Exercises such as push-ups, plank, donkey raises and squats are all workouts that one can do at home. You don’t need gym equipment to work out and stay fit.

What are the essential foods to include in a diet and why?

In my particular diet I need to eat more natural carbs (like avocados and broccoli) that give energy and less rich carbohydrates (like white bread) because these contribute to weight gain and of course saturated fats (like chocolate/processed meats)are a no-go as well.

What is Fix Scholarship and where do we get more info on it?

I have partnered up with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and the University of Pretoria to give a life-changing opportunity to Africa’s next social entrepreneur. Every year, a Scholarship worth R22 500 will be awarded to aspiring social entrepreneurs with the aim of advancing each candidate’s business expertise and preparing them to assume key leadership roles in today’s competitive social sector.

You work in an industry where you attend events with finger foods and treats. How do you handle them?

Temptations are high but I live on an “Eat only if you are hungry” rule.

Being healthy is….

Taking care of your temple. People need to take care of their bodies and that will make life easier and healthier.

We all have lazy days where the snooze button is our friend, how do you stay motivated?

I continue sharing my workout videos and pictures on my social media pages and I follow many inspirational fit woman on Instagram and Facebook so this is what keeps me motivated.

What advice do you have for people at home who want to live a healthy lifestyle but don’t know where to start?

Find a fitness programme that you will enjoy, so if gym is not your thing consider dancing or even a team sport like netball. What matters is that you are active and enjoying it.
