Celebrating youth and culture

The Ngeke! Festival is a celebration of culture through music and art. At the heart of it all, it is a collective action with one message: “Ngeke! Say NO to corruption.”

The festival is hosting its second edition this year, following its debut at Constitution Hill last year. The free event urges prospective goers to take a stand through the Ngeke! Pledge.

More than 600 people turned up at last year’s event, which set a precedent that encouraged South Africans to reject corruption and take greater responsibility for the role they play in society.

Now, Ngeke! Festival is back again with an impressive line-up.

The announced performers promise to offer a diverse sound, bringing together artists from different musical backgrounds, including African pop singer Nomfundo Moh.

Nomfundo was recently featured on Mawelele’s second studio album on a song titled Phakade. She is known for emotive music and her elaborate storytelling in her lyrics. Her breakthrough was in 2020 with the song Lilizela, which achieved platinum status.

Nomfundo’s debut album, Amagama, came out in 2022, blending Afro-pop, R&B and traditional South African sounds. The album features the hit single Phakade Lami featuring Sha Sha and Ami Faku.

Joining her on stage as headliners and bringing their distinctive live performance style to the festival are The Brother Moves On. The group, based in Johannesburg, is known for combining music, storytelling and performance art, drawing on African traditions while exploring contemporary sounds.

The festival will be on 7 November at The Nest in New Doornfontein from 18:00, with free entry.
