Willy had recently been on sick leave and had reportedly been away from the team for almost two months.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Willy confirmed his resignation and explained that he felt stepping down was the right decision for the club.

“Yes, I have resigned. I have decided to put the team first,” he said. “I’ve been away from the team for almost two months now. So, I just need to focus on my health. I am okay,” he added.

The coach also reflected on his recent medical assessment, explaining that he had been advised to take time off after Polokwane City’s match against Siwelele.

“Remember, after the game of Siwelele, I went to the doctor, and they booked me off for 10 days. So, I am strong now,” Willy told the publication.

Despite confirming that he is doing better, Willy said he needed to focus on his recovery after spending an extended period away from the team.

Where Polokwane City stand on the Betway Premiership log

Polokwane City are currently 11th on the Betway Premiership log, with eight points from nine matches. Rise and Shine have recorded one win, five draws and three defeats so far this season. They are three points above bottom-placed Richards Bay.

Willy’s resignation comes at a time when the club will be looking to improve its league position as the 2026/27 campaign continues.

A change in leadership at Polokwane City

Willy’s departure marks a coaching change for Polokwane City as the club moves forward without him at the helm.

His decision to resign comes after his recent absence, with the coach explaining that he did not want his situation to affect the team.

For now, attention will turn to the club’s next steps and who will take charge following Willy’s exit.
