As one of the defining musical acts of the 1990s, original members Nhlanhla and Lucky Shabangu appealed to both younger and older audiences through music that was deeply rooted in love and connection.

After stepping away from the public music scene for more than two decades to pursue individual paths, the beloved duo is officially returning with their single Amalangabi, a reimagined, high-energy version of their breakout hit Love 10 Thousand, leading into a full-length album and nationwide tour.

Inspiration behind the Twins reunion

The decision to reunite stemmed from a perfect alignment of timing, maturity, and an enduring connection to their craft. Despite being away from the spotlight, music never truly left the brothers, who regularly received messages from lifelong fans sharing how their songs remained soundtrack moments for milestone life events.

“We realised that the bond between us, both as family and as musical partners, was still intact. We also felt that we had more to say, more to give, and more music to make,” the duo told BONA.

“The reunion is not about trying to recreate a moment from the 1990s; it is about embracing who we are today and sharing that growth with the people who have supported us from the beginning.”

Blending heritage harmonies with contemporary soundscapes

Protecting their signature R&B vocal chemistry was non-negotiable during the recording process. The duo intentionally preserved their classic vocal delivery while pairing it with modern production textures and rhythms to ensure the song resonates on contemporary airwaves.

“We worked with a modern sonic palette that incorporates contemporary rhythms while allowing the vocals to remain central,” they explained. “We wanted longtime fans to hear the Twins they remember, but we also wanted younger audiences to hear something that feels fresh, powerful, and present.”

Life experiences over the past twenty years have brought greater intention to their songwriting. Rather than creating simply to be heard, Nhlanhla and Lucky are now focused on crafting timeless music that bridges generational gaps.

What lies ahead: Full-length album, national tour, and rebirth

The release of Amalangabi serves as the opening chapter of an extensive rollout. Fans can expect a full-length studio album before the end of the year, promising rich harmonies, emotional honesty, and a mix of reflective ballads and upbeat anthems.

Alongside the new music, Twins are preparing to hit the road for a nationwide tour to reconnect live with South African audiences.

“If we could describe this brand-new chapter in just one word, it would be ‘rebirth,'” the duo reflected. “This chapter is about returning with renewed purpose, confidence, and appreciation. We are moving forward with everything we have learned, experienced, and still want to say through music.”
