The MK Party, established by the former President of the Republic of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, has announced that they have released Sibonelo Nomvalo from his duties as the party’s Secretary-General.
This marks the removal of the party’s eighth Secretary-General in the last three years since the political party was established.

Sibonelo Nomvalo relieved of his duties
The MK Party released a statement announcing the change in leadership due to the recent removal of the party’s Secretary-General following concerns related to internal factionalism, delays in campaign material, and changes within the parliamentary caucus.
The party found that these matters posed a threat to the coordination within the organisation, communication on an internal level, accountability, and adherence to already established procedures.

Who will replace Sibonelo Nomvalo?
They also announced that Lindiwe Mtshali will be appointed Acting Secretary-General whilst working in consultation with the National Chairperson, Mxolisi Phakathi, to ensure continuity of coordination, administration and organisational affairs of the party.
Much of the reasoning behind the removal of the eighth Secretary-General seemingly lies in the party’s prioritisation of core values.
“The party comes first. Unity, discipline and accountability remain our collective responsibility,” the party’s media statement reads.

Losing credibility
Many social media users are concerned with the revolving door of Secretaries-General. The MK Party was established in late 2023 and has appointed and fired eight Secretaries-General since.
“I’m sorry, but this constant firing of people by MK makes the party look unstable. If they can’t smoothly run their party, how can they run anything? They could have at least waited and fired Nomvalo after the local elections.” X user Nondabaza wrote.

Some are now questioning the credibility of the party concerned with the frequency with which important members are being changed, and others are simply dismissing it as a “circus.”
