Durban at the centre

According to SA Hip Hop Magazine, the Durban-born rapper, real name Simiso Zwane, has elevated the hip-hop album from a conventional scope into an artistic one where different sounds, visual influences and cultural references are reflective of the home he grew up in.

Released through Sjambok Studios, the album reportedly underwent years of development after missing the initial 2024 release date the artist had been eyeing. The rapper described the album as the most difficult record he has ever completed, reflecting on the challenges faced creating with intention.

The rapper aimed to create music that captured the events shaping recent years.

Creating with intention

This project was intentional for the artist, who moved with a pace that aligned with the creative process required to encapsulate all that has transpired in recent years.

With this, Simiso continued refining the music and created a body of work influenced by information overload, cultural shifts, and the experience of relearning in a rapidly changing world.

Previewed tracks

Throughout the year, Simiso has given listeners glimpses into the world of iTheku eThekwini. The first official single, Into Yabantu Ababili, dropped in February 2026, followed by Soon As I Land, featuring Tony Dayimane and iBattery, produced by G-Star Beatz.

Iconic sound

The album expands on the experimental sounds the rapper is known for since his debut album Mlazi Milano in 2016. He adds an eccentric element of cultural expression and genre-bending in his approach to hip hop.

Grounded in Durban’s culture, his sound has been a great contribution to the culture both in South African hip hop and groove culture.
