Madumanne is more than Laduma Ngxokolo’s furry bestie accessory

When you think of MaXhosa Africa designer Laduma Ngxokolo, knitwear specialist, bold heritage-inspired patterns, and luxury style immediately come to mind. But step into his personal world, and you’ll find another star capturing hearts: his dog, Madumanne.

As a dedicated pet parent, the world-renowned designer reminds us that no matter how busy life gets, our furry companions keep us grounded, loved, and inspired.

Meet Madumanne

For Laduma, Madumanne is far more than a four-legged fashion accessory.

“Madumanne is much more than a pet; he is family. He has been a constant companion, bringing joy, comfort, and a unique energy into our home.”

That bond is at the heart of their story. “Madumanne has a unique character that makes him impossible not to love. He’s loyal, affectionate, and always brings a sense of happiness wherever he goes.” For Laduma, spending time with Madumanne also provides an escape from the pace of being a creative entrepreneur and designer.

“An ordinary day with Madumanne is usually about slowing down. Whether we’re playing or simply spending time together, he brings out a much more relaxed and playful side of me,” he explains.

When pets become part of your style

Madumanne’s matching jersey started with something Laduma had designed for himself.

“I had designed a cardigan for myself, and creating a matching jersey for Madumanne felt like a playful and meaningful extension of that idea,” he reflects.

It might sound like the ultimate example of matching pet parent and dog outfits, but Laduma says the idea was never really about creating dog fashion for fashion’s sake.

“It was less about fashion and more about celebrating a relationship that brings so much joy.”

That sentiment speaks to the growing relationship between pets and fashion, not simply dressing animals for a trend but finding playful ways to include them in our lives and express the relationships we have with them.

More than a matching look

For Laduma, pets and self-expression are naturally connected. “Being a pet parent has shown me that self-expression extends beyond ourselves. The way we care for our pets, include them in our lives, and celebrate them says a lot about who we are.”

It is a perspective that turns a cute matching outfit into something more meaningful. Madumanne isn’t simply wearing a mini version of his owner’s look. He is being included in Laduma’s story.

And that story comes with responsibility. “One of the biggest responsibilities of being a pet parent is making sure your pet is cared for, no matter what life brings,” says Laduma.

Ultimately, the best accessory isn’t the matching jersey. It’s the bond underneath it.

For him, responsible pet parenting means making sure Madumanne’s health and well-being are protected, giving him the reassurance to focus on enjoying every moment with an important member of his family. This is why Dotsure is such an important part of Laduma and Madumanne’s life.

“Dotsure has given us confidence that Madumanne’s health and wellbeing are protected, allowing us to focus on enjoying every moment with him,” say Laduma.
