Following the success of his third studio album Songs About You, the former Idols South Africa winner is expanding his distinctive Afro-Soul style into a modern New Age TrapSoul R&B aesthetic.
A musical journey built on authentic vulnerability
The story behind ONLY4U took shape naturally in the studio alongside collaborators Tinashe and Tineke. After producer Tinashe introduced a selection of instrumentals, Karabo and Tineke gravitated toward a track anchored by digital drums, layered keys, ambient strings, and a rich bassline.
“Tineke and I spoke about the topic and theme of the song, which became our guide in terms of where we wanted to take it,” Karabo explains. “She then began to pen the song, and we worked on the vocal arrangement together. I then added my personality and vocal identity to the song.”

At its core, the release serves as an exploration of emotional transparency in relationships. Reflecting on his own personal growth, Karabo shares, “This track speaks about the importance of being vulnerable in a relationship, not holding back and basically being transparent through and through. To be honest, being married for five years has taught me a lot about how I can better do that.”
He adds: “As human beings, we will never fully connect if there are parts of ourselves that we’re still withholding from our significant other.”

Bridging local identity with global horizons
While ONLY4U places Karabo alongside international R&B contemporaries like Giveon, Lucky Daye, Leon Thomas, and Alex Isley, his musical foundation remains rooted in South Africa’s diverse talent pool.
On his recent collaborations, which include pairing with KLY on Flashbacks, Touchline on Mnike, and Tineke on Safe, Karabo highlights the power of creative synergy:
“Connection matters at every level, and Tineke and I just click. With Kly, listening to his approach to music and his understanding of it made the decision very easy. Touchline is by far one of my favourite rappers in Mzansi. South Africa has a lot of talent that has yet to be explored, and I want to be part of the movement by collaborating with those artists.”
Stepping into an independent era has further refined Karabo’s perspective on his artistry. “Being independent has given me the freedom to explore my versatility when creating music and not to fear that I might fail. The question I ask myself when attempting something is, ‘What if it works out?'”
He reflects on how his core motivation as an artist has matured:
“My vision has gone from wanting to only be awarded for the work I do to focusing more on the reward I get from sharing the gift God has given me with the world. The healing music brings to those who need mending in their relationships is something that means a lot to me. Music is a calling for me.”

Crafting experiences beyond the beat
For Karabo, every production is designed to resonate on an emotional level long after the final note plays. “I hope listeners discover that my music isn’t just about the sounds and the beat, but more about the emotive expressions that accompany the song.
“My hope is that when they listen to my music, they may forget the beat or the lyrics, but they won’t forget how my music made them feel.”
Looking ahead, fans can expect a visualiser for ONLY4U, live performances across the country, and an upcoming album tour as Karabo continues to bring his sound to the UK, US, and global listeners.
