Fear is mounting among women in Ekurhuleni after police discovered the body of another woman in Springs, bringing the number of women found dead in the metro since July to 11.

EWN reported that the woman’s body was discovered in an open veld near Rhokana Road in Struisbult, Springs, at around midday on Sunday, 27 September 2026. A security company vehicle patrolling the area spotted the body and alerted police.
Police investigate latest discovery
Gauteng police confirmed that a multidisciplinary team had been deployed to the scene. The team includes detectives, Crime Intelligence, Crime Scene Management, Investigative Psychology Services and the task team already investigating the deaths of women in Ekurhuleni.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni also visited the scene and provided an update on the preliminary investigation.
According to Tommy, the deceased is believed to have been in her early 20s. He said the body was not in a decomposed state, indicating that the woman had been killed relatively recently, SABC News reported.
According to The Citizen, police said the woman was found partially clothed, while preliminary observations indicated possible strangulation. Her identity had not yet been confirmed at the time of the reports.

Growing fears among women
The latest discovery has intensified concerns among women living and working in Ekurhuleni, particularly after several bodies were found in the area over the past two months.
Women in Springs have spoken about feeling increasingly unsafe as police investigate the deaths. One resident told SABC News that she was worried because she works late and no longer feels safe.
The deaths have also renewed calls for authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
Police, however, have not confirmed that the cases are connected. Investigators are continuing to examine each death and determine whether there are links between the cases.
10th woman’s murder also under investigation
The discovery in Springs came shortly after another woman, Ntombifuthi Nxumalo, was found dead at Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa on Saturday.
Police subsequently arrested a suspect in Limpopo in connection with Ntombifuthi’s murder. Investigators are awaiting forensic results to establish whether evidence recovered at the cemetery can be linked to the suspect, SABC News reported.
The two cases have added to concerns about the safety of women in the region, with community members calling for stronger action against gender-based violence and femicide.
Investigation continues
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation into the latest death to come forward.
Authorities say further information will be released as the investigation progresses and forensic examinations are conducted.
The discovery has brought the number of women’s bodies found in Ekurhuleni since July to 11, while SABC News reported that another woman’s body was found in Soweto in September, bringing the broader Gauteng figure to 12.
