South African podcast Podcast and Chill with MacG has come under fire following clips from the show in which hosts were seen laughing while discussing the murder of Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo.

Tsontso, a 38-year-old mother and runner, disappeared after leaving her home in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, for a routine run on 9 September 2026. Her body was later discovered in the area, and her family positively identified her at the Germiston mortuary on 14 September 2026.
Her death has sparked widespread concern as police investigate a series of women’s deaths in the Kempton Park and surrounding areas. At the time of her identification, police were investigating five women’s deaths in the broader area and had deployed a multidisciplinary team to establish whether there were links between the cases.
Podcast sparks backlash
Clips from Podcast and Chill circulated on social media, prompting criticism of the hosts over remarks and laughter while discussing the killings.
Many social media users accused the podcast of trivialising a serious case involving the death of a woman and the impact of the tragedy on her family and child.
The backlash has been particularly strong because Tsontso’s death has become part of a wider national conversation about women’s safety and gender-based violence.
However, some people have argued that the clips circulating online do not provide the full context of the discussion and that the comments should be viewed in the context of the complete episode.
The criticism has nevertheless placed the podcast under renewed scrutiny, with viewers questioning whether discussions about violent deaths should be handled differently, particularly when grieving families are still dealing with the aftermath.

Tsontso’s death sparks fear among runners
Tsontso’s death has deeply affected Gauteng’s running community. Running clubs have since organised tribute events in her honour, while some have increased security measures and encouraged members to run in groups.
Her family previously described the loss as devastating. Her cousin and family spokesperson Andries Moraka Matlaila said the family was struggling to come to terms with the violent circumstances surrounding her death, reported TimesLIVE.
The tragedy has also prompted renewed calls for women to be able to use public spaces, including roads and running routes, without fear.

Police investigate multiple deaths
Police have been investigating several cases involving women’s bodies discovered around Kempton Park and neighbouring areas since July.
Importantly, authorities have not confirmed that all the deaths are connected or that a serial killer is responsible. Investigators have instead been examining possible links between the cases as part of the ongoing probe.
The number of bodies reported in the wider area has since increased, with police continuing to investigate discoveries and cautioning against speculation while the investigations remain active.
For now, the controversy surrounding Podcast and Chill has added another layer to an already emotionally charged national conversation about the deaths of women in Gauteng and how such cases are discussed publicly.
Social media users react
Nothing shocking here. This podcast is built on belittling, bullying and humiliating women and the people who watch them share the same sentiments. https://t.co/uphUvtBEcs
