Khanyi Mbau has reflected on how motherhood has changed the way she approaches fame, work and life in the public eye.
As reported by TimesLive, the actress and media personality says becoming a mother to her young-adult daughter, Khanukani, has given her a different perspective on visibility and responsibility.

Mbau has previously spoken about supporting Khanukani through school and giving her space to find her own path. In 2025, she celebrated her daughter’s matric success, revealing that Khanukani had earned an 80% admission points score and was preparing to take a gap year.
Motherhood has changed Khanyi Mbau’s priorities
For Mbau, parenting now means being conscious of the example she sets. As her daughter becomes an adult and begins establishing her own identity, the actress says she feels an increased responsibility to model the values she wants her child to carry into adulthood.
That has also influenced how she presents herself publicly.
Mbau says she has become more private out of respect for her daughter, who is now navigating friendships, social media and young adulthood in her own right.
The shift has extended to her career choices. Rather than accepting every opportunity, Mbau is increasingly intentional about the projects she takes on and whether they align with the person she is becoming.

Balancing motherhood and a career
Despite becoming more selective, motherhood has not slowed Mbau’s career. She continues to work in film and television, including her return as Grace Khumalo in Meet the Khumalos 2.
Netflix confirmed Mbau as part of the returning cast, alongside Ayanda Borotho and Jesse Suntele.
Her reflections offer a relatable reminder that motherhood can evolve alongside a child’s independence — and that growing as a parent can mean reassessing what you share, what you pursue and the example you leave behind.
