A throwback video showing Connie Ferguson during the early days of her television career has resurfaced online, giving fans a glimpse of the star long before she became one of South Africa’s most recognisable actresses and producers.

The footage features Connie during her time as a continuity presenter on CCV-TV, the South African Broadcasting Corporation channel that operated between 1992 and 1996. CCV-TV was later restructured as part of the SABC’s television reorganisation, with the channel becoming associated with what is now SABC 1.

A trip back to the 1990s

The resurfaced footage has taken social media users back to a very different era of South African television.

In the clip, a young Connie can be seen carrying out her continuity-presenter duties, introducing programming and appearing on screen with the polished presentation style associated with television in the 1990s.

For viewers who remember the era, the video offers a nostalgic look at the television landscape before the rise of social media, streaming platforms and today’s digital entertainment industry.

Before Connie Ferguson became a household name

Connie’s television career would later reach another level when she joined Generations as Karabo Moroka.

The popular soap opera premiered on CCV-TV in February 1994, with Connie becoming one of its most recognisable stars. She played Karabo for many years and later returned to the role at different points in the show’s history.

Her journey from early television presenting to acting, producing and building her own entertainment business has made her one of the industry’s most enduring figures.

Mzansi reacts to the throwback

The resurfaced clip has prompted nostalgic reactions from viewers, with many reflecting on Connie’s early career and how much television has changed since the 1990s.

For some fans, seeing the actress during her early television days is also a reminder of just how long she has been part of South Africa’s entertainment industry.

Others have praised her youthful appearance and natural on-screen presence, while celebrating the career she has built since those early days.

A career spanning decades

Connie has gone on to establish herself as an actress, filmmaker, producer and businesswoman, becoming particularly associated with some of South Africa’s biggest television productions.

Her career has included acting, production and entrepreneurship, while her influence has extended beyond the screen.

The throwback, therefore, offers more than just a nostalgic television moment — it provides a glimpse into the early career of a woman who would go on to become one of Mzansi’s most recognisable entertainment figures.
