Zohran Mamdani’s Riky Rick pick gets attention

Riky Rick, who died in February 2022, remains one of South Africa’s most influential hip-hop figures. Known for his distinctive fashion sense, music and entrepreneurial spirit, the rapper left a lasting mark on Mzansi’s entertainment industry.

Zohran’s choice is likely to resonate with South African fans who continue to celebrate the late rapper’s contribution to music and youth culture.

The Nafukwa hitmaker was also known for his influence beyond music, particularly through his Cotton Fest platform, which brought together music, fashion, street culture and young creatives.

Major League DJz get a New York nod

Zohran also selected Major League DJz as among the African acts he would like to see perform in New York City.

The South African DJ and production duo, made up of Banele and Bandile Mbere, have built an international reputation for their amapiano sound and Balcony Mix series.

The brothers have increasingly taken South African music to international audiences through performances, collaborations and global tours. Their official channels currently list international performances and projects, including dates in New York and other overseas markets.
