Mzansi’s love for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ prevails at the box office

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed over R100 million at the South African box office, Sony Pictures South Africa announced this week. This milestone marks the film joining the ranks of other blockbusters such as Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame.

The movie broke yet another record, with the opening weekend earning more than R44 million. The movie and television studio shared that this was the biggest opening weekend in South African cinema history.

Sony Pictures thanks South Africans

The official Sony Pictures South Africa Instagram page took to social media to thank South Africans for watching and helping the movie reach such impressive numbers.

Mzansi loves ‘Phitha Phaka’

The Spider-Man movie franchise has been a hit in South Africa for a long time, with a viral moment dating back to 2020 of a dancing man cosplaying Spider-Man. There have been many local sightings that have gone viral across social media platforms, with South African social media users showing love and sharing laughter.

Spider-Man is a big sensation in South Africa, so the recent box office milestone is no coincidence.
