Police release Hlengiwe Buthelezi’s name and photograph

On Wednesday, Gauteng police released Hlengiwe’s photograph and asked members of the public who may know her whereabouts to come forward.

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said detectives attached to the Provincial Investigation Unit for Serious and Violent Crimes were searching for Hlengiwe in connection with the case.

According to police, the offences occurred in Johannesburg Central on 16 December last year, when DJ Warras was fatally shot outside a building in the Johannesburg CBD.

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact Detective Sergeant Nengovhela on 082 967 9362. Information can also be provided anonymously through the MySAPS app or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Hlengiwe Buthelezi allegedly linked to alleged mastermind

Hlengiwe’s name has also emerged during proceedings against Victor Mthethwa Majola, who is accused of masterminding Stock’s killing.

IOL reported that Hlengiwe is believed to be Victor’s girlfriend. Victor, 44, is facing charges including premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder and remains in custody after being denied bail.

Meanwhile, Armindo Joaquim Pacula, who was accused of carrying out the shooting, has already been convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison after entering into a plea and sentence agreement. According to court proceedings reported by The Citizen, Armindo admitted to shooting DJ Warras in exchange for R25,000.

Victor’s case was postponed in the Johannesburg High Court to 18 September 18 2026 to allow the defence additional time to secure funding for legal representation.

The police search for Hlengiwe marks another development in the investigation into the killing of DJ Warras, whose death shocked South Africa’s entertainment and broadcasting industry.
