The Cape Town Regional Court has postponed its decision on whether former Miss South Africa contestant and Miss Universe Nigeria titleholder Chidimma Adetshina should be detained pending deportation.

According to EWN, the court has moved the matter to 27 February 2027, saying it cannot determine the detention issue until the Western Cape High Court has ruled on Adetshina’s separate review application challenging the decision to deport her.
The latest postponement means Adetshina remains out of detention while the broader legal challenge continues. She has been ordered to remain at the same address and report regularly to an immigration officer.

The Department of Home Affairs maintains that Adetshina has no valid legal status in South Africa following the revocation of her South African citizenship documents and is seeking her detention pending deportation.
Her lawyers, however, argue that she has longstanding ties to South Africa and that her immigration status can be regularised because she was born in the country.
The case has also drawn renewed attention outside the courtroom. Members of Operation Dudula protested outside the Cape Town Regional Court on Wednesday, calling for Adetshina to be sent to Nigeria.
The latest development leaves the central questions over Adetshina’s immigration status, possible detention and deportation unresolved pending the High Court review.
