Orlando Pirates were forced to settle for a point after being held to a 1-1 draw by AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night, while Kaizer Chiefs moved to the top of the early-season standings with a 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United.

The contrasting results have given the Soweto giants different starts to the new league campaign, with Chiefs taking the initiative at the summit while defending champions Pirates dropped points in Durban.
Orlando Pirates held in Durban
Pirates appeared on course for another victory after taking an early lead at Kings Park Stadium.
Tshepang Moremi opened the scoring in the seventh minute against his former club, reacting quickest after AmaZulu goalkeeper Wilfried Kouassi had parried Yanela Mbuthuma’s effort. Moremi’s finish gave the Buccaneers an ideal start.
AmaZulu, however, refused to surrender and eventually found the equaliser to earn a share of the points. The result will be viewed as a missed opportunity for the reigning champions, who had opened their title defence with a convincing 2-0 win over newly promoted Milford FC.

Early title race takes shape
With only two rounds completed, it is too early to draw firm conclusions about the title race. However, the early standings already underline the importance of every point.
Pirates will now look to bounce back in their next league fixture after surrendering a lead against AmaZulu, while Chiefs will aim to maintain their momentum and extend their advantage at the top.
