Burning calories is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, improving cardiovascular health, and managing weight. While there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, combining regular physical activity with healthy habits can help you achieve your fitness goals.

Healthline lists five effective ways to burn more calories every day.

Going for a walk

Walking is one of the easiest and most accessible forms of exercise. A brisk 30-minute walk can burn between 150 and 250 calories, depending on your pace and body weight. If you’re looking for a greater challenge, jogging can burn significantly more calories while improving heart health and endurance.

Strength training

Sometimes trying something different, like strength training, can be used to help shed a few calories. Lifting weights or performing bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, lunges, and planks helps build muscle and can also contribute to that. Since muscle tissue burns more calories than fat, increasing your muscle mass can help your body burn more calories even while at rest.

Riding bikes

Cycling is an excellent low-impact exercise that strengthens your legs and improves cardiovascular fitness. Whether you ride outdoors or use a stationary bike at the gym, cycling can burn between 300 and 600 calories per hour, depending on your speed and intensity.

Staying active throughout the day

You don’t have to spend hours in the gym to burn calories. Simple daily activities like taking the stairs instead of the lift, gardening, cleaning the house, dancing, or playing with your children can contribute to your daily calorie burn. Small lifestyle changes add up over time and support long-term health.

Try high-intensity interval training

High-intensity interval training involves alternating short bursts of intense exercise with brief recovery periods. Workouts can include sprinting, jumping jacks, burpees, mountain climbers, and squats. This not only burns calories during the workout but can also boost your metabolism for hours afterwards.

The best way to burn calories is to choose activities you enjoy and can do consistently.
