A post-match mix-up saw the wrong Springbok receive the Man of the Match award following Saturday’s 45-21 victory over England at Ellis Park.

According to Rapport, the accolade was intended for fullback Damian Willemse after his standout performance in the Nations Championship opener.

However, inside centre Damian de Allende was mistakenly ushered forward for the on-field presentation and post-match interview with SuperSport’s Hanyani Shimange.

SuperSport’s commentary team, who select the Man of the Match, had chosen Willemse, but a communication error resulted in De Allende being identified as the recipient.

It remains unclear where the mix-up occurred.
