Gayton McKenzie makes his score predictions

The outspoken minister is backing head coach Hugo Broos’ men to progress beyond the opening round after predicting a strong set of results in Group A. South Africa has been drawn alongside Mexico, South Korea, and Czechia in a group many soccer fans believe is wide open.

In a video posted on X, the Patriotic Alliance leader mentioned Bafana’s successes, which led him to believe in the following predictions:

  • South Africa 1-1 Mexico (match date: 11 June 2026)
  • South Africa 3-1 Czechia (match date: 18 June 2026)
  • South Africa 2-1 South Korea (match date: 25 June 2026)

Can Bafana Bafana deliver?

The South African squad is making its first World Cup appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010. The team arrives in Mexico with renewed confidence following several encouraging years under Broos.

While score predictions always spark debate among supporters, the minister’s forecast reflects the growing belief that this Bafana squad can compete with anyone in their group.

South Africans weigh in on score predictions

Mzansi social media users entered Gayton’s comment section to express what they thought the national soccer team would deliver on the nail-biting days to come.

“That’s bold predictions, but I understand the support and hype we need to put behind our boys,” remarked @uncleCB__.

A hopeful @ZA_Simply commented, “This first minister that will take Bafana to the semis. Good luck, Minister. God is watching all you are doing for our football team.”

@AdvRamaru added their opinion under the post, “Why predict a draw and not a win? Youโ€™re setting a bad precedent, Minister. You ought to demand victory, nothing else!”
