Gen Z carving their own success: Own pace, own race

Generation Z, born roughly between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, is redefining the traditional ideas of success. Rather than following a conventional, linear path, they are embracing individualised journeys that prioritise personal values, mental health, and flexibility.

This shift reflects a broader cultural change in how achievement and fulfilment are perceived.

Embracing individuality and flexibility

Unlike previous generations, Gen Z places a strong emphasis on carving out their own paths rather than adhering to societal expectations. They value authenticity and seek careers and lifestyles that align with their passions and beliefs. This generation is more likely to pursue unconventional careers, entrepreneurship, or gig work, allowing them to set their own pace and define what success means to them personally.

Prioritising mental health and well-being

Gen Z openly acknowledges the importance of mental health in their pursuit of success. They recognise that success is not just about financial gain or status but also about maintaining a healthy balance between work and life. This perspective is driving them to avoid burnout and to create sustainable, fulfilling careers that support their overall well-being.

Leveraging technology and innovation

Growing up in a digital world, Gen Z harnesses technology to create new opportunities. From building personal brands on social media to launching startups, they use innovation to accelerate their progress while maintaining control over their trajectories. This digital fluency empowers them to collaborate globally and access resources that help them succeed on their own terms.

Gen Z’s approach to success—moving at their own pace and running their own race—marks a significant departure from traditional models.

By valuing individuality, mental health, and technological empowerment, they are shaping a future where success is more inclusive and personally meaningful. Their journey encourages a broader understanding that success is as diverse as the people who pursue it.
