The 32nd edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) is scheduled to take place on 15 August 2026 in the North West province. The North West MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Galebekwe Tsotso Tlhapi, announced the news on 27 May 2026.

The MEC said, “It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th instalment of the SAMAs here in North West. This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we are ready once again to welcome the nation.”

More than just an awards show

The North West province has previously hosted the SAMAs several times and is often referred to as the traditional home of the SAMAs.

For provincial leaders, the return of the SAMAs represents more than a single-night event. For them, it is also an opportunity to showcase the province’s cultural infrastructure, tourism appeal and ability to host major national productions without any hiccups.

Preparations for SAMAs

Preparations are already underway, with consultations taking place across government, industry and production stakeholders. The provinces’ planning efforts are focused on delivering a seamless event while building on the province’s history as a successful SAMA host.

Unati Gwija, who is a spokesperson for the SAMAs, said, “We have already begun extensive stakeholder consultations in preparation for the SAMAs. There is a strong sense of excitement and unity as we return to the North West, a province that has proven itself as an exceptional host.”

The announcement has already generated anticipation across the entertainment sector, with artists, labels and fans looking ahead to what could become one of the most culturally significant editions of the awards in recent years.

The SAMAs go live on the 15th of August 2026.
