LIV Golf South Africa invests R1.6m in community upliftment through the Steyn City Foundation

by Zaghrah Anthony
Johannesburg, 29 January 2026: LIV Golf South Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to creating meaningful impact beyond the fairways with a significant contribution into community development initiatives in Diepsloot through a partnership with the Steyn City Foundation. The investment marks a major social legacy milestone ahead of the first LIV Golf event to be staged on African soil, taking place 19-22 March at The Club at Steyn City.
The contribution underscores LIV Golf’s broader ambition to leverage its global sporting platform to drive positive change, inspire young people, and leave a lasting legacy in the neighbouring communities that host its events.
The R1.6 million contribution will be split equally between two of the Steyn City Foundation’s flagship initiatives: Delivering Happiness to Diepsloot and the Growzone, both focused on improving the lives and futures of young children in the surrounding community.
Delivering Happiness to Diepsloot, is an annual outreach programme that reaches more than 13,500 primary school children, providing school backpacks filled with stationery, toys and treats. Growzone, the foundation’s year-round food security programme, is operated by eight full-time staff members from the local community in an on-site nursery and supplies fresh produce to 51 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in Diepsloot, ensuring consistent access to nutritious food for young learners during their formative years.
Chris Bentley, VP Regional Managing Director of LIV Golf South Africa, believes this investment reflects the organisation’s commitment to leaving a meaningful legacy beyond the golf course.
“From the outset, LIV Golf has been about more than just hosting a world-class sporting event. We want LIV Golf to have a real and lasting impact on the communities around us, and South Africa presents both an incredible opportunity and a real need. Partnering with the Steyn City Foundation allows us to support programmes that are already making a measurable impact on young lives and local communities,” says Bentley.
Commenting on the donation, Steven Louw, CEO of Steyn City Properties, said: “We are most grateful for this generous contribution from LIV Golf South Africa. Importantly, it will enable us to take the Growzone to the next phase, establishing it as a commercially viable and self-sustainable operation. This will allow produce grown at the Growzone to be sold to commercial food and beverage outlets within the estate, including the hotel, clubhouse restaurant and other eateries, as well as selected Auto & General food and beverage operations.”
Louw added that food security remains a cornerstone of the foundation’s work. “The Growzone is an essential programme that supports early childhood development at a critical stage. Ensuring its long-term sustainability means we can continue providing nourishment that helps young learners grow, develop and prepare for formal schooling.”
The donation reflects LIV Golf’s broader commitment to social investment and reinforces Steyn City’s ongoing efforts to create positive, lasting change within its neighbouring communities.
“It is a great honour for Steyn City to host the first LIV Golf event to take place on African soil,” says Louw. “It is an enormous privilege to showcase some of the best golfing talent from around the world at our estate. However, we are just as cognisant of the purpose behind the event: ensuring that it leaves a lasting impact at grassroots level, reaching South Africans from all walks of life.”
