‘I choose peace’: Rachel Kolisi speaks out as Siya Kolisi goes public with new relationship

by Staff Bona

Rachel Kolisi has shared a message about choosing peace and self-growth, days after her estranged husband, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, went public with a new relationship.

The couple, who announced their separation in October 2024 after eight years of marriage, share two children and have remained largely private about the breakdown of their relationship.

‘I choose peace, I choose me’

On Wednesday, 14 January, Rachel posted a short TikTok video in which she is seen quietly reading Rising Strong by Brené Brown.

The clip features audio saying: “I choose peace, I choose love, I choose happiness. Today, I choose me.”

She captioned the post: “And goodness was it a journey to get here.”

The message was widely interpreted as a personal reflection on healing and self-preservation amid public attention surrounding her former marriage.

Finding perspective during an Angola trip

Rachel recently returned from a 10-day trip to Angola, where she shared reflections on the experience and the perspective it offered her.

“It’s impossible to put this experience fully into words,” she wrote, recalling how a video she saw last year of a young boy with polio learning to walk first sparked her interest in the country.

“But spending ten days in Angola gave me a depth of perspective I wasn’t prepared for.”

Her posts focused on compassion, resilience and the realities faced by many communities, marking a clear shift toward humanitarian and personal growth themes.

Siya Kolisi moves on publicly

Rachel’s post comes shortly after Siya was spotted on holiday with 25-year-old influencer Rachel John, with the pair appearing together during a trip abroad.

The sighting marked the first time Siya publicly acknowledged a new relationship since the split, prompting widespread social media reaction.

Siya and Rachel share two children, Nicholas (11) and Keziah (9), and also legally adopted Siya’s siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, whom they raised together as a family.

While neither party has publicly disclosed the reasons for their separation, Rachel previously alluded to betrayal in a cryptic TikTok shared shortly after the announcement of their split.
