Sophie Ndaba’s niece murdered in Zimbabwe

by Zintle Mdaka

Tragedy has struck the family of veteran actress Sophie Ndaba, as online reports have confirmed that her niece has been brutally killed, allegedly by her boyfriend, in Zimbabwe.

Cordelia Masalethulini, who was 45, was a broadcaster and writer. Daily Sun reported that she was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend and live-in lover, Fungai Quinton Tawengwa, earlier this month.

Speaking to the above-mentioned publication, Sophie confirmed the death in the family. She also revealed that Cordelia was her sister’s daughter.

“Yes, I can confirm that she’s my niece. She was my sister’s daughter. My sister died two months ago, so you can imagine it’s not easy,” she said.

“Death is not easy, I don’t know what happened except what we’ve read in media reports in Zimbabwe. As a family, we are still waiting for the authorities to officially inform us about what actually happened to her,” said Sophie.

The former Generations actress told the publication that she plans to travel to Zimbabwe to pay her last respects once the funeral arrangements have been finalised.

According to Briefly, the incident is said to have taken place on January 4, 2026, when the couple allegedly spent the day enjoying drinks at Helensvale Shopping Centre in Borrowdale. Later that evening, it’s reported that heavy rain forced them to seek shelter at a property on Whisper Road up to around 10 pm.

The publication added that it is there where an alleged “misunderstanding” ensued, during which Cordelia refused to go home with Fungai. After the rain subsided, the two left on foot towards Harare-Domboshava Road.

Cordelia’s half naked body was discovered the following day, lying in a pool of blood.

Fungai, who is the prime suspect, has made his first appearance before the Harare magistrate, Ruth Moyo, and will remain in custody until January 22.
