The Lekompo star Melita Mogale, popularly known as Kharishma, received two nominations for the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) while fighting for her life in hospital following a fatal car accident.

The hitmaker has been nominated for Music Video of the Year and Record of the Year for her hit song Chokeslam. In the Music Video of the Year category, she is nominated alongside Mthandeni Sk, 2point1, Tyler ICU, Pabi Cooper, Supta and more, while she is nominated alongside Caiiro, Kabza De Small, Kelvin Momo and Bassie among others in the Record of the Year category.

The Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA) announced that the awards will take place at Gallagher Estate in Midrand on December 14.

RISA spokesperson Unathi Gwija highlighted that this year’s event will adopt a reimagined hybrid format.

“By embracing a hybrid format, SAMA31 aims to expand access, enabling fans across South Africa and beyond to participate in the celebration through multi-platform engagement and interactive digital experiences,” said Unathi.

The horror crash that led to Kharishma’s hospitalisation is reported to have taken place between Grobler and Magazyn Street in Polokwane. Reports indicate that the Chokeslam hitmaker was travelling with another passenger, who also sustained injuries in the crash. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle was declared dead on the scene.

In a statement issued by her family soon after the accident, they confirmed that Kharishma and three friends were involved in the crash.

”We would like to assure the public, her fans, and supporters that qualified and dedicated medical professionals are doing everything possible to ensure her recovery and healing.”

Expressing gratitude for the support they have received, her family also said they were “deeply touched by the overwhelming messages of support, prayers, and well wishes received thus far.”
