South Africa is home to some of the most beautiful wildlife, but not every experience needs to be lived through a safari tour in the bush, others are found in the heart of our ocean.

One way of encountering this is by going shark cage diving.

What is shark diving?

Shark diving is an underwater experience where an observer gets a close glimpse into the real-life nature of one of the most respected creatures in the ocean. Those venturing on this opportunity will have the assurance of being protected by a cage designed to prevent sharks from making contact. It is also completely safe.

“The South African cage-diving industry is regulated by a Code of Conduct and regulations from the Marine and Coastal Management Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. Apart from minor injuries due to the boat or cage, seasickness, or dehydration, no injuries or accidents to guests have been recorded in more than 10 years,” highlights Ker & Downey.

Meanwhile, it provides the perfect bucket list experience which you can boast about at a family braai.

Those looking to live this in real life would be thrilled to discover that there are various coastal cities where you can make memories and capture these ocean giants at close glance.

Here is where you can experience them:
