South African audiences are counting down the days until the third and final season of Shaka iLembe hits our screens. MultiChoice confirmed that production is officially underway, with the series set to premiere on Mzansi Magic in 2026.
Executive producer Desiree Markgraaff promises a season that will expand the saga’s world while delivering a conclusion worthy of the Zulu king’s legendary legacy. “Season 3 reinvents an entire culture and establishes a legacy that endures more than three centuries later,” she said, hinting at the epic storytelling fans have come to love.
What Fans Can Expect
The final season will be a whirlwind of intrigue, action, and heartbreak. Shaka’s military campaigns against the Mpondo kingdom are expected to intensify, while Queen Nandi grapples with a devastating secret that could alter the course of history.
History comes alive as Francis Fynn and the British arrive at Port Natal, signaling the early waves of colonial influence in the Zulu kingdom, a turning point that adds a dramatic new layer to the story.
Nomzamo Mbatha, who doubles as both executive producer and Queen Nandi, describes the final season as the culmination of a journey that has captured the hearts of African audiences. “It builds on the legacy of African television, from an all-conquering reign to sweeping love stories, to the founding of another nation and the arrival of colonists,” she said.
Record-Breaking Legacy
Shaka iLembe isn’t just a television series, it’s a cultural phenomenon. MultiChoice’s investment in the series is its largest local content commitment to date.
