The entertainment industry has suffered another blow with the passing of comedian and actor, Oscar Mgudlwa, popularly known as Madluphuthu.

The iconic entertainer from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni passed away on Wednesday, July 16, reportedly following a short illness.

Oscar’s brother, Sipho Mgudlwa said to Daily Sun. “My brother complained about breathing complications on Sunday. He died at a hospital in Rosettenville in Joburg.”

Confirming his death was his son, Asanda Mgudlwa who took to his Facebook page to share a heartfelt tribute.

The name ‘Madluphuthu’ was derived from a role he played where he breathed life into the character of a young boy who lived with a disability. He displayed his acting prowess well, with the hand movement, the drooling and body movements, leading many to believe that Oscar was like his character in real life.

Apart from that role, he appeared on Black Door as Jupiter. Oscar also had a brief stint as a kwaito star. He released an album with Mina Nawe’s Manchild in 1998, and worked with the late Mapaputsi in 2001.

X (formerly Twitter) users shared their condolences.
