After successfully debuting their highly popular Symphonic Orchestra event with amapiano maestro Kabza De Small in 2024, Red Bull has done it again, and this time with Kelvin Momo, who some have dubbed the new unofficial king of amapiano.

Although there had previously been other international Red Bull Symphonic events before, June 2024 saw the event debuting with a bang in the republic, and saw the unofficial king of amapiano, Kabza De Small, taking the Lyric Theatre stage in Gold Reef City, alongside popular conductor Ofentse Pitse and the Symphonic Orchestra to pull off a goosebump-inducing performance.

In an effort to pick up from where they left off, the popular energy rink brand revealed that Thato Ledwaba, who is famoulsy known by his music alias Kelvin Momo is the artist they selected to take the baton from Kabza, which many know is no small or easy feat, considering the success the show garnered.

Although there were a few hiccups along the way, including issues with ticket sales, most likely due to the overwhelming interest in the show, the event turned out as a great success, with attendees giving the Sewe producer his well-deserved flowers.

Taking place over the span of three nights, the show was characterised by a carefully curated display of some of Kelvin’s extensive and popular discography, with selected songs pulled from his various timeless projects that he has been consistently giving to his loyal fan base.

Led by conductor Edward Howard and the Egoli Symphonic Orchestra, the event boasted a range of some of mzansi’s stars who have previously collaborated with the Fool Me hitmaker, including the likes of MKeyz, Mashudu, Tracy, as well as the producers lover and partner in crime Babalwa M, who served endless couple goals with her headliner bae. To top things off, the event saw surprise performances from hip-hop OG A-Reece,

What a show! @kelvinMomo_’s catalogue was just perfect for Redbull Symphonic! Adam Howard did a SUPERB job orchestrating and conducting the show (and also playing the trumpet in moments)… pic.twitter.com/5f1aKpbNN2

According to some social media users, this event has confirmed what they already knew, and cemented Kelvin Momo as the GOAT of amapiano, an honour that had previously been reserved for the likes of Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, for their undesputed impact on the industry.
