Effective ways of preventing a flu

by Sergio Miller

The annual winter season is now upon us, which means more blankets, an extra layer of clothing to protect you from the freezing cold temperatures outside, and most of all, extra measures to ensure you are protected against factors such as colds and flu.

“The flu is a common respiratory illness you get from the influenza virus. Symptoms often include fever, head and body aches, coughing, and a stuffy or runny nose,” explains the medical information hub Cleveland Clinic.

The above-mentioned source further notes that those suffering from underlying medical conditions or currently experiencing a period of pregnancy face an even greater risk of facing serious complications – and let’s face it, when having to deal with a drop in the atmosphere’s temperature, being sick is one less thing you would want to worry about.

Cleveland Clinic notes that there are three common types of flu. The first two are known as Influenza A and B. These are described as seasonal flu and often make their appearance during winter months when the temperature drops, and usually have more severe symptoms.

The third type is known as Influenza C. These are not seasonal, and the symptoms are not as severe.

Fortunately, there are several precautions you can take to ensure that you are protected.

Here are some useful tips recommended by the health and wellness publication Healthline:

  • Avoid large crowds
  • Wash hands regularly
  • Strengthen your immune system
  • Get a flu vaccination
  • Disinfect surfaces
