From Barcelona bust to Ballon d’Or favourite, Ousmane Dembélé’s stunning PSG revival is powering a historic Champions League run, writes DYLAN JOHNSON.

Writing for Soccermag, Johnson discusses Dembélé’s rise to the top after a disastrous spell in Spain. Signed for €135 million in 2017 to replace Neymar, Dembélé’s Barcelona years were marked by missed opportunities and injuries. Over six seasons, he made 185 appearances but missed 119 matches due to injury, sidelined for more than two years in total. Despite moments of brilliance, particularly under Xavi, his time in Spain was ultimately seen as a disappointment.

Now in his second season back in France, Dembélé has transformed under Luis Enrique at PSG, delivering 46 goal contributions in 47 games. Supported by a solid midfield and a system that suits his skills, he’s become a key player in PSG’s push for their first Champions League title — and a genuine Ballon d’Or contender.
