If storytelling were a superpower, @skelemsiya would be in a league of his own — and on South African TikTok, he already is.

Scroll through your For You Page, and you might stumble upon a vibrant animated scene narrated in rich isiXhosa. With a voice so commanding and phrases so catchy, you’ll drop everything to watch the story unfold. That’s the magic of Siyabulela Skelem, the content creator who’s redefining how news and current affairs are consumed—and he’s doing it his way.

According to his TikTok bio, Siya is a filmmaker, musician, storyteller, and graphic designer. And honestly? You can see every one of those titles at play in his videos. Whether he’s narrating a local news story, unpacking a jaw-dropping incident, or relaying South African life’s strange but true realities, he does so with a unique blend of creativity, authenticity, and cultural pride.

What truly sets Siya apart is that he tells these real, often serious stories entirely in isiXhosa — his home language — which not only gives the content a deeper layer of relatability, but also makes it feel personal and grounded. There’s power in hearing your own language used to explain the world around you, especially when it’s done with such passion and finesse.

His storytelling isn’t just about words, though. Siya is a master of visuals, crafting animated characters and scenes that mirror each story beat by beat. In one video, he recounts a tense robbery scenario with visuals that enhance the suspense. In another, he dives into a bizarre real-life event with characters so expressive, they practically speak without saying a word.

Catchphrases like “Atsh’amadama anamanzi” and “Hanna-hanana” have become signature hooks that draw viewers in — they signal that something gripping, shocking, or hilarious is about to happen, and each video ends with you wanting to hear just one more story. It’s no surprise that Siya has many admirers on TikTok, where many users are imitating his narration style and celebrating him for his brilliance.

The production quality is proof of just how much effort Siya puts into his work. His timing, edits, sound effects, and animations are all stitched together with the care of someone who respects the craft. He’s not just making content — he’s building an immersive experience.

In a space where viral dances and quick trends often dominate, Siya is carving out a lane where language and local storytelling are at the forefront. He’s proving that there’s an audience hungry for smart, thoughtful, creative content — and he’s serving it with flair.

Siya also has a YouTube channel called the Mello Agency Network, where he posts all of his content.

So if you haven’t already fallen into the Siya Skelem rabbit hole, do yourself a favour. Open TikTok, search his name, and press play. Just be warned — you won’t be able to stop at one video.
