Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White has been a bright spark in an outstanding season, but a £100m move to Manchester City isn’t yet justified, writes Dylan Johnson.
Writing for Soccermag, Johnson argues that while Gibbs-White has contributed significantly to Forest’s European push, his numbers don’t reflect a player ready for a massive leap. His goal and assist tally is modest for a player of his potential, and his expected goals show room for improvement.
Gibbs-White’s ability to link play and press effectively could fit Pep Guardiola’s style, but stepping into City’s elite midfield is a different challenge. For £100m, City may be better off waiting to see how Gibbs-White fares in next season’s Champions League with Forest before taking the plunge.
