The purpose of portfolio committees is to oversee the corresponding government department’s work, ensuring that obligations are being met.

24-year-old Ashley, who sat in the portfolio committee for higher education and training, raised concerns and accused the Central University of Technology (CUT)  of favouring and opting to hire foreign nationals over qualified South African citizens. Furthermore, he exposed that the institution’s vice chancellor and principal, Pamela Dube’s blatant disregard for policy to place foreign nationals in roles that do not require scarce skills.

23-year-old Liam Jacobs, who sat on the portfolio committee for sports, arts and culture, also went on his own exposé, where he revealed some discrepancies in Netball SA’s books, as key members such as the CEO failed to account for the organisation’s spending.

@liamjacobs.za Good morning South Africa!! ?????? You’ve asked for it so here it is. The full 8 minutes of my questioning towards the executive of Netball South Africa. I asked them about R119 THOUSAND on a social media influencer and over R2 MILLION on consulting fees.
